Mounting & Plaques

When looking for an inexpensive way of displaying your less valuable posters, prints, or photos, plaque mounting may be what you are looking for. Plaque mounting means that your piece is mounted on a piece of MDF and laminated with a clean bevelled edge creating a very chic and contemporary frameless look. This is great for displaying wall décor, but is unfortunately non-reversible and not a method used to preserve your pieces. Plaque mounting is not recommended on anything with monetary or sentimental value.

Other options similar to plak mounting are also available including flush mounting, float mounting and plak matted.

A flush mount is similar to the traditional plaque mount, but the MDF that it is mounted on is approximately 1†thick, giving the piece a bit more substance as well as strengthening the overall board (which is especially recommended on large pieces to avoid warping). Your artwork would be mounted to a thinner MDF panel, and is then given a MDF frame on the back to help provide the extra support and create the depth. This also means that while reinforcing the structure, the back of the plaque is hollow which helps keeping your larger pieces from getting too heavy.

Floatmounts are similar to the above flushmounts in the sense that it gives you some extra depth off of the wall, but instead of a frame sitting right to the edge of piece, the backer piece is inset giving the artwork a shadowed illusion of floating from the wall.

A matted plak is another option that differs from the traditional plak mount. It has the same shape and depth as your standard plak but the artwork is surrounded by a painted border with the colour of your choosing, much like a traditional matboard using in framing.

Happy Hanging!
